Discover the right bank! Discover medieval villages such as Saint-Macaire, Rions, Cadillac and surrounding castles.
Saint-Macaire is a must for anyone who wants to admire a rich heritage. This charming medieval town is full of typical alleys lined with beautiful old houses. In particular, its arcaded square, named Mercadiou, is lined with medieval houses pierced with double bays and Renaissance-style houses adorned with glazed windows. A delightfully picturesque place that deserves a look for a moment, if only to contemplate the magnificent facade of the former Henri IV relay station.
The small town of Gironde, Rions (secret place) is located on the RD10, about 30 kilometers south of Bordeaux, at the foot of the slopes of the right bank of the Garonne, in the heart of the Première Côtes de Bordeaux vineyard. Its past is rich with more than 1000 years of history. Involved in the events of the Hundred Years War, occupied by the British since the middle of the 13th century, Rions was liberated in 1295 by Charles de Valois.
The city-county of Cadillac is ideally located in the center of a world famous wine region. This bastide town, founded in 1280 by Jean de Grailly, representative of the King of England, has preserved its medieval structure, which can be discovered by following the interpretive path. You can also stop at the port of Cadillac on the Garonne, where you can see beautiful boats and even cruises.
Chateaux to visit in the surrounding area:
